What is a 4K Monitor? And why should you buy one?
A 4K Monitor is a high resolution display with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (meaning it is tall, wide and skinny). This type of display is typically used for displaying photos, videos and even designing software that lets users create and edit 4K content. The resolution of a 4K monitor is 4 times that of a Full-HD monitor and is ideal for displaying large amounts of detailed visual information. 4K monitors also support a high refresh rate which means each display pixel is refreshed a lot faster than a Full-HD monitor. This allows for smoother gaming and video playback, as well as better color accuracy and less tearing when displaying fast moving images. Not only is the resolution of a 4K Monitor higher than a regular monitor, but it is also typically much bigger. This is primarily due to the fact that a 4K monitor requires an aspect ratio that is 4 times that of a Full-HD monitor. In order to fit this resolution into a 43 inch display, manufacturers have had to make use of a different technology called Ortholithography which produces displays with an aspect ratio of 1:1. A 1:1 aspect ratio means that the monitor has exactly the same vertical and horizontal resolution as the observed image. However, it is worth noting that this technology was only used in the earliest 4K displays, and is not suitable for displaying images that are much higher resolution.
Why Buy A 4K Monitor?
While 4K does not necessarily mean moreprice, it is important to understand why you would want to purchase a 4K monitor and whether it is worth the money. First, let’s take a look at the different applications for 4K monitors and why one would want to use it in each application:
Gaming - 4K gaming is becoming more and more prevalent, and almost every new generation of gaming consoles comes with 4K support. While not all games support 4K at full resolution, most games now feature a resolution option that is 4 times higher than the original display resolution. This means that 4K games look and play extremely smooth on a 4K monitor, with no graphical corruption or factor of perspective degradation due to the large resolution.
Productivity - These days, a laptop or desktop computer is more likely to have a 4K display than a Full-HD display. This is because of the incredible versatility of 4K displays; they are perfect for all types of content, and can even be used to display photos and videos. A 4K display also has much more range than a Full-HD display, allowing you to see more area at any given distance, and allowing for much easier outdoors productivity.
Gaming - Specialty 4K games have become available for a few select gaming platforms, like the PS4 Pro. These games feature 4K visuals with 60fps or faster frame rates, which means the images and game play are extremely smooth and responsive. These games also feature a range of extra features such as built-in VR and advanced HDR support.
What to Look For When Shopping For One
While the above provides a general overview of what a 4K monitor is and what it can do, it’s actually the size and resolution of the screen that are the most important factors to consider when shopping for a new monitor. The following are some things to keep in mind when shopping for a 4K monitor:
The Size of the Screen - One of the most significant factors to consider when shopping for a 4K monitor is the size of the screen. The general rule of thumb is that the larger the screen, the more resolution the screen can display. Therefore, displays with a size between 38 and 43 inches are usually the best option.
Refresh Rate - A factor to keep in mind when deciding on a 4K monitor is the refresh rate of the display. The refresh rate of a display is the rate at which the display refresh correspnds to image content and is often measured in Hertz (HZ).
